Whether its fibroids or sub-fertility, PMS or peri-menopause, weight management or migraines the road to better health is greater self-knowledge and better care. In addition to identifying and using the therapies most regarded scientifically and historically to address a woman’s health issues, Oriens explores how she got there. Almost any women’s health issue can be resolved or dramatically improved. Oriens combines support, education and intervention to bring women into their prime — at every age.
We treat women not just by staying current on research and employing time-tested healing methods, we help women uncover beliefs about themselves and their bodies that may play a substantial role in the health they are experiencing. Oriens continues the mind-body approach to women’s health pioneered by Oriens’ mentors, advisors and role models: Randine Lewis, Ph.D. (The Infertility Cure) Deborah Kern, Ph.D. (Everyday Wellness for Women) and Christiane Northrup, MD.(Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom and The Wisdom of Menopause). Oriens is proud of its connection with these extraordinary women and the gifts their work brings to our own

Chinese medicine along with many other healing medical traditions from around the world have long known what science is now proving: that what our minds hold to be true, our bodies come to express.
Our health potential is a manifestation of what Chinese medicine calls our pre-natal inheritance (genetic blueprint and constitution), how we treat ourselves (environment, lifestyle, medicine, etc.) and what we hold to be true (mental constructs, spiritual and emotional beliefs). Science and Chinese medicine agree that the choices we make regarding the things we do have control over, and greatly affect the expression of our genetic potential. In other words, we have great leverage in our ability to shape our health and our experiences.
From raising our fertility to having a positive menopause transition, we co-create our health by enhancing or draining our native resources.
As women we are programmed from an early age to be dissatisfied with ourselves. From media to fairy tales and personal places in between, we learn to judge our looks, focus on our faults, feel inferior, believe that something is wrong with us. Message after message has us competing and losing.
We lose touch with the pleasure of our bodies. We lose our confidence. We lose perspective. We lose our freedom...to feel and enjoy being the sensual creatures that women are! We may even lose our ability to enjoy sex!
Many women learn strange relationships to food. We learn to wish our shape were different than our genetics dictate. We learn a language and attitude of war ... we “battle” our weight, “make peace” with our looks. We learn to label our monthly fertility cycles “the curse,” while learning very little about the miracle our bodies are and the deep clues our menstrual cycle gives us about our health and well-being. We fall into odd beliefs about what is feminine. We learn to judge ourselves by standards and mental patterns that are not original, not respectful, not authentically ours.
But how many of us really are on board and living this way? When was the last time, if ever, you felt excited and happy to have YOUR body? When have you thanked your body, been proud of your body, taken the time to learn about and respect your body?
Surprisingly, most women we meet don’t know how their cycle works or what menopause really is.
Instead of marveling at the way their bodies talk, stopping to listen for cues and clues, they fear that things are wrong. They feel out of control. They accept the language and definitions of outside authorities—infertile, hormonal, etc. without ever having learned how to care for themselves or even believe that their own attentions can heal them.
When women come to value and care for themselves and their bodies, things change. The combination of treatment, self-inquiry and self-care often pivots health and life in very pleasing directions.
Science shows us that women’s brains and women’s bodies are more complex. Our lives are influenced by and expressions of the maturity phase we are in.
From entering womanhood and cycle regulation, through the challenges of creating a biologic child—or not, through the identity shifts of the late reproductive years and the transition of menopause into the wisdom years ... each of these physical rites of passage dominate and frame the many other aspects of our lives.
Each of these phases call us to different questions around our identity as a woman. They each focus us to understand, use and accept our bodies in a specific way. They each offer us another opportunity.
to explore their health and wellness needs, to help them age beautifully, to respect and treasure their bodies in the way they exercise and eat, to nurture their understanding of who they are and what they are experiencing at every stage of their lives.
